First published in 1975, the Don Thompson JUPITER album is a remarkable, independent vinyl record production and a landmark production event. At a time before the digital-production age, it was virtually ground-breaking to independently produce material beyond demo tapes without the financial backing of an established Record Label.
Don Thompson, 1975
Appropriately, the chosen Concept Theme for the JUPITER album, relates to self awareness, and self discovery.
"Presented in the classic-form of Greek Mythology, the JUPITER storyline scenario sets the stage that The Human Race has evolved over time occupying and using up each planet in our solar system…one by one.
Planet Earth is our last chance to get it right." dt
The artistic freedom enjoyed throughout the JUPITER production also engulfed the Cover Art as well. Foremost, is the gorgeous hand-pulled lacquer ink silk screened outer jackets for the first 1,000 albums released.
Thompson’s creative form of acoustic rock platforms a unique signature. Don’s sound is driven with the powerful dynamics, harmonics, and overtones, only to be found performed on the Bozo acoustic 12-string guitar.
“Producing Jupiter, I wanted to create a complete product of signature art, rather than a debut album ‘Presenting Don Thompson.' dt
